Avicularia jurensis / The Peru Purple Pinktoe spiderling
Avicularia jurensis, commonly known as the Peru Purple Pinktoe, is a stunning arboreal tarantula native to Peru. Known for its striking purple sheen and pinkish toes, this species is popular among tarantula enthusiasts for its calm demeanour and impressive appearance.
Habitat and Enclosure
This tarantula thrives in a vertical, well-ventilated enclosure that mimics its natural tropical forest home. A tank of about 20x20x30 cm is ideal, with plenty of climbing branches and hiding spots. Maintain moderate to high humidity (around 75%) with regular misting, and keep temperatures between 24 and 28°C.
Feeding
The Peru Purple Pinktoe eats a diet of gut-loaded crickets, roaches, and occasionally mealworms. Juveniles should be fed every 3-4 days; adults, once a week.
Behaviour and Handling
Generally docile and quick-moving, Avicularia jurensis prefers minimal handling to reduce stress but displays a fascinating spider behaviour, making it an excellent showpiece for beginners and experienced keepers alike
