Brachypelma albiceps / Golden red rump

The Brachypelma albiceps, commonly known as the golden red rump tarantula, is a stunning species native to Mexico. It is prized among hobbyists for its striking golden cephalothorax and vibrant red abdomen, combined with a generally calm temperament, making it a great choice for beginners.

Housing

Provide a secure enclosure with good ventilation and a substrate of about 5–7 cm of coconut fibre or peat moss for burrowing. A hide or shelter and a shallow water dish are essential. Keep the habitat warm, around 24–28°C, with moderate humidity (60–70%).

Feeding

Feed primarily on crickets, roaches, or mealworms every 7–10 days. Juveniles require more frequent feeding. Always remove uneaten food to prevent mould or mites.

Behaviour and Care

This tarantula is docile but can be defensive when threatened. They moult periodically as they grow. Handle them gently or avoid handling to reduce stress.

With patience and proper care, the golden red rump is a captivating and rewarding pet
