Ceratogyrus sanderi / Sandy Horn Baboon / Namibian horned
The Ceratogyrus sanderi, commonly known as the Sandy Horn Baboon tarantula, is a striking species native to Namibia. Recognisable by a distinct, horn-like protrusion on its carapace, this tarantula is a favourite among enthusiasts for its unique appearance and hardy nature. The horn’s purpose remains a bit of a mystery, but it adds to this spider’s exotic charm.
In captivity, Ceratogyrus sanderi requires a warm, dry environment that mimics its natural arid habitat. Ideal temperatures range between 24 and 29°C with moderate humidity around 60%. A deep substrate for burrowing, such as a mix of sand and peat, is essential since these spiders love to dig and create intricate tunnels.
Feeding is straightforward—they accept crickets, roaches, and other appropriately sized insects. While generally defensive, they are relatively easy to care for if their habitat and diet needs are met. Perfect for keepers interested in robust and distinctive tarantulas
