Davus pentaloris / Mexican Tiger Rump spiderling
The Mexican Tiger Rump (Davus pentaloris) is a striking tarantula native to Mexico, known for its vibrant orange and black patterned abdomen. It's a popular choice for enthusiasts thanks to its manageable size and calm nature.
Housing
Provide a terrarium around 10 liters with secure ventilation. Use 5–7 cm of dry substrate like coconut fiber or peat moss, as this species prefers a drier environment. Add a hideout such as cork bark and some dry leaf litter for natural decor.
Temperature and Humidity
Keep temperatures between 24–28°C (75–82°F). Humidity should be moderate, around 60%, achieved by lightly misting once a week. Avoid wet or soggy substrate to prevent mold.
Feeding
Feed juveniles small crickets or roaches 2–3 times a week; adults can eat larger prey weekly. Always remove uneaten food after 24 hours to maintain cleanliness.
Behavior and Handling
Mexican Tiger Rumps are generally calm but can be defensive if disturbed. Handle with care, and only if necessary, as they can flick irritating hairs.
With the right care, this colorful tarantula makes an intriguing and rewarding pet for both beginners and experienced keepers
