Harpactira pulchripes / Golden Blue Leg baboon spiderling
The Harpactira pulchripes, commonly known as the Golden Blue Leg baboon tarantula, is a striking species native to South Africa. Its vibrant golden carapace and shimmering blue legs make it a popular choice for enthusiasts. Known for its speed and somewhat defensive behaviour, it is perfect for keepers with some tarantula experience.
Housing
A terrestrial enclosure of 10x10 inches with good ventilation works well. Use a substrate depth of 5 to 7 cm to allow burrowing but ensure it remains dry. Add some hides like cork bark to provide security.
Temperature and Humidity
Maintain temperatures around 24–27°C (75–80°F) with moderate humidity near 60%. Avoid excessive moisture to prevent mould and stress.
Feeding
Feed a diet of appropriately sized crickets, roaches, or mealworms. Adults eat once a week, while spiderlings require more frequent feeding.
Handling
Due to its speed and defensive tendencies, handling is not recommended. Admire this beautiful spider safely from its enclosure.
With proper care, the golden blue leg baboon makes a fascinating and colourful addition to any tarantula collection
