Lasiocyano sazimai, also known as the Brazilian Blue Tarantula, is famed for its stunning iridescent blue coloration and is a prized species among tarantula enthusiasts.

This tarantula, formerly classified as Pterinopelma sazimai, is native to Brazil, particularly the Bahia, Minas Gerais, and Chapada Diamantina regions. It inhabits rocky, dry environments and is part of a monotypic genus—Lasiocyano—meaning it's the only species in its genus.

🌟 Key Features of Lasiocyano sazimai

Coloration: Its most striking trait is the vibrant, iridescent blue sheen that covers its legs and carapace, especially vivid in juveniles and young adults.

Size: Adults can reach a leg span of up to 6 inches (15 cm).

Temperament: Generally docile but can be skittish. They possess urticating hairs which they may kick off defensively.

Habitat: Prefers moisture-retentive substrates like coco fiber or peat moss. Ideal humidity is 60–70%, and temperature should be kept between 75–85°F (24–29°C).

Care Level: Recommended for intermediate keepers due to its sensitivity and specific environmental needs.

Discovered in 2011, it was the first Brazilian species to be featured in the International Institute for Species Exploration’s top 10 new species list in 2012.

Named in honor of Dr. Ivan Sazima, a Brazilian biologist.
