Black Beauty Stick Insect (Peruphasma schultei) Care Sheet

The Black Beauty Stick Insect, scientifically known as Peruphasma schultei, is a striking pet famous for its shiny black body and red wings. Native to Peru, this insect is a fascinating addition to any terrarium. Caring for it properly means replicating its natural environment as closely as possible.

Temperature and Environment

Maintain a temperature between 22°C and 26°C (72°F–78°F) to keep your stick insect comfortable. Avoid sudden fluctuations or draughts, as these insects prefer stable warmth. Humidity should be moderate, around 60-70%, so mist the enclosure lightly but avoid excessive moisture.

Habitat Setup

Provide a well-ventilated terrarium with plenty of fresh leaves for food—blackberry, raspberry, and rose leaves honeysuckle and privet are ideal. A tall enclosure helps accommodate their climbing habits and moulting process. Use natural branches and moss to mimic their forest home
