phyllocrania paradoxa - Ghost mantis
The Host Mantis, scientifically known as Phyllocrania paradoxa, is a fascinating and beautifully camouflaged species native to Africa. Often called the Ghost Mantis, it is prized for its leaf-like body and cryptic appearance, which make it a popular choice for beginner and experienced mantis keepers alike.
Housing
Provide a well-ventilated enclosure with plenty of vertical space and natural or artificial plants for climbing. A 12x12x18 inch terrarium is suitable for an adult mantis. Keep the enclosure humidity around 50–70% and maintain temperatures between 22 and 28°C (72–82°F).
Feeding
Host mantises are carnivores, feeding primarily on small live insects such as fruit flies, crickets, and small roaches. Feed juveniles daily and adults every 2–3 days to avoid overfeeding.
Handling and Care
They can be handled gently but prefer minimal disturbance. Mist the enclosure lightly once a day to provide humidity, and clean the habitat regularly to prevent mould and bacteria buildup.
With their unique appearance and simple care needs, ghost mantises make rewarding pets for insect enthusiasts
