S. sericeus / ex Holothele sericea Ischnocolinae sp. "Dominican Republic
S. sericeus is a tarantula species belonging to the Ischnocolinae subfamily, native to the Dominican Republic. Previously known as Holothele sericea, this spider is admired for its silk-like body texture and calm temperament, making it popular among tarantula enthusiasts.
Living in tropical climates, S. sericeus thrives in warm temperatures typical of the Dominican Republic, generally ranging from 24 to 30°C (75 to 86°F). Maintaining similar temperatures in captivity is important to support their health and activity.
In the wild, these tarantulas inhabit humid environments and are often found under rocks, leaf litter, or inside crevices. They prefer stable humidity levels around 70%, so heating and moisture control are key when replicating their natural habitat.
Thanks to their adaptable nature and relatively small size, S. sericeus makes an interesting species for hobbyists who want an exotic yet manageable tarantula from the Caribbean region
